Festival “Chacha”
The annual “Chacha” festival was first formed in Georgia on November 3rd of 2018, on the King Erekle Square in Telavi, at the initiative of the Georgian Chamber of Culture and Tourism Development. The festival promotes the Georgian natural product “chacha” as a protected geographical indication. Following 2018, the “Chacha” event is held annually on the first Saturday of November in King Erekle Square in Telavi exclusively, with free entry for all. All eight towns in the Kakheti region—Telavi, Akhmeta, Gurjaani, Dedoplistskaro, Sagarejo, Sighnaghi, Lagodekhi, and Kvareli—participate in this unique regional event, which is one of a kind in Georgia.
The National Wine Agency, the National Intellectual Property Center of Georgia – “Sakpatenti,” the National Tourism Agency, the Georgian government, and the Kakheti region’s governor’s office all promote the “Chacha” festival.
The centuries-old history of the Kakheti region, the existential concerns of the Georgian people, ethnography, culture, customs, and rituals are all reflected in the “Chacha” festival. Small theatrical productions that vividly depict the ethnography, customs, and rituals of the Kakheti region are featured at the “Chacha” festival. in particular, the interactions amongst Kakheli villagers and the method of chacha distillation used by them in several Kakheti villages; specificly, the interactions amongst Kakheli villagers and the method of chacha distillation used by them in several Kakheti villages;
Companies that produce Georgian chacha participate in the festival;
There is a large Kakhi “Zaodoba” that is open to anyone.
In addition to chacha distillation, meals from Kakhuri cuisine are prepared;
Traditional polyphonic music and “kafis” from Kakhuri folk groups will adorn the celebration throughout the day.
Throughout the festival, the jury members lead workshops aimed at promoting the natural grape brand “Chacha” from Georgia. They additionally tell the invited guests about the product’s history, practical uses, and ability to make people fall in love with it.
A jury is formed during the festival, and its members sample and assess separately the chacha distilled by firms that produce chacha and the chacha distilled by farmers from various villages in Kakheti. Winning companies and farmers receive certificates and medals in the colors of gold, silver, and bronze.
