International Sea Festival “Argonautica”

On September 27th, 2025, in the city of Batumi the International Sea Festival “Argonautica” was established, organized by the Chamber of Georgian Culture and the non-profit organization “Culture Marad.”

September 27th is one of the most tragic days in Georgian history, the day of the fall of Sokhumi. This day was dedicated to Abkhazia, to the patriots who fought for it, and to the stories of their heroic battles. As part of the event, the theater-studio “Modi Nakhe” of the Georgian Technical University presented a play based on the work of Nodar Mosulishvili, “The Last Seagull,” dedicated to the devotion of Zhiuli Shartava and his fellow fighters. They defended their homeland at the cost of their lives and refused to cooperate with the enemy. The performance was held within the framework of the International Sea Festival “Argonautica.”

The festival was opened by David Okitashvili, President of the Chamber of Georgian Culture; Irakli Patsatsia, Minister for Internally Displaced Persons from the Abkhazian Autonomous Republic; and Ia Ninidze, Georgian theater and film actress.

This highly emotional evening, the remembrance of heroes, and the renewed acknowledgment of their sacrifice and loyalty evoked profound feelings in the audience.

The festival’s organizational and creative team thanks everyone who remembered the heroes on this day and honored their memory.
