Ozurgeti theater is celebrating its 150th anniversary!
On July 5th of 2018, the Professional State Drama Theater named after Alexander Tsutsunava in Ozurgeti hosted an anniversary evening honoring the theater’s 150th year of founding.
Ozurgeti has been making theatrical art since 1868, and it hasn’t stopped since then. The theatre in Ozurgeti, which still goes by that name, was first established by Alexander Tsutsunava, one of the pioneers of professional directing in Georgia.
With its modernism and history combined, Ozurgeti Theater is a significant cultural center in Western Georgia and the only professional theater in the Guria region. In addition to being the theater’s artistic director, Vasil Chigogidze is a laureate of the Marjanishvili Prize, a knight of the Order of Honor, and an acclaimed artist.
The honorary star designated for Ozurgeti Theater was unveiled in the square next to the theater at the end of the anniversary evening.
