The sole annual regional celebration in Georgia, involving small wineries, farmers, agricultural workers, and businesses that produce Chacha from each of the eight municipalities in the Kakheti area;
Objectives of the festival:
– “Chacha” refers to the marketing of grape Chacha-based spirits as a protected geographical designation and highlights its health benefits;
– encouragement – promotion of small wineries, farmers, peasants, and businesses that produce “Chacha” by highlighting their finest Chacha samples;
– exhibition and retail of a variety of “Chacha” producing companies’ products;
– goods from “Chacha” producing enterprises are tasted and advertised around the presentation table;
The festival competition jury is chaired by Zaza Grigalashvili, a sommelier, food technology expert, and authority on Georgian wine.
– Participants:
Winemaker Giorgi Solomnishvili is the creator of the “Solomnishvili Winery.”
Giga Kuchava is a wine technologist and doctor of technical sciences who works for the “Sarajishvili” joint stock enterprise.
Giorgi Datukishvili is a farmer, a doctor of sciences, the head wine technologist of the “Georgian Wine” organization, and, as of 2017, a member of the National Wine Agency’s permanent acting tasting commission.
Festival program:
12:00 p.m. – opening of the festival with a musical-theatrical procession;
12:45 p.m.–1:00 p.m. – Georgia’s National Center for Intellectual Property displays Georgia’s protected geographical indications through “Sakpatenti”;
12-30–18-00 hours – Small wineries, farmers, and peasants from all eight municipalities in the Kakheti region, along with Chacha producing firms, will display and sell samples of their Chacha;
– Every one of the eight municipalities in the Kakheti region will showcase its unique corners, displaying their own customs, traditions, and cultures.;
– a gastronomic corner reminiscent of Kakheti and exhibition-sale of traditional dishes;
– Exhibition and sale of products of more than 60 entrepreneurs from eight municipalities of Kakheti;
– the municipalities’ cultural program, which is customarily headed by Georgia’s People’s Artist and Telavi Tetari actor Vano Yantbelidze;
14-00-16-00 hours – The competition jury will hold a joint masterclass tasting of Chacha as part of the festival:
– Giorgi Solomnishvili: What should be considered when distilling high-quality Chacha – basic principles;
– Giorgi Datukishvili – demands the grapes needed for Chacha;
– Giga Kuchava – What should be considered when creating a mixture of Chacha;
– Zaza Grigalashvili – Chacha marketing, tasting, and blending.
4:00 p.m.–5:00 p.m.—theater No. 1 performance “First they killed, then they got married” (director Kiazo Jobava) with theatrical musical numbers.
5:00 p.m.: Individual farmers, peasants, and businesses will receive gold, silver, and bronze medals as well as pertinent diplomas for being the top Chacha producers in 2024.
5:30 p.m.: The most inventive municipality at the 2024 festival will be recognized, and the festival organizer will donate a cash prize to a family that is socially disadvantaged in the municipality;
